Expansion of Fiber Internet in Rural Maine Communities

UniTel has Entered into an Agreement with Broadband Company Direct Communications

Unity, ME, November 3, 2021UniTel is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Direct Communications, an Idaho-based broadband company that has been a family-owned business since 1954. This deal—tentatively scheduled to close in December 2021—will provide UniTel with new investment capital so that it can continue to grow and expand. UniTel will have the same name as well as the same offices in Maine, and the current UniTel employees will continue to provide customers with fast internet and the same local, dedicated service as always.

The biggest change will be an expedited opportunity to build fast fiber internet for more Mainers. We know that some of our customers have been waiting for fiber broadband to come to their homes. Direct Communications wants to expand UniTel’s fiber offering in our current communities, as well as expand UniTel’s footprint to other nearby towns and communities that need fast connectivity.

UniTel is truly appreciative of the community’s trust in us. We thank you for your business over the years; please rest assured that UniTel will be here to serve you and your families for years to come.
