UniTel Named Gig-Certified Provider by NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association

UniTel Currently Offers New Fiber Customers Gig Internet Speed for $100/Month

March 22, 2021 – UniTel has been recognized by NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association, the premier association representing nearly 850 independent, community-based telecommunications companies that are leading innovation in rural and small-town America. As a Gig-Certified Provider, UniTel is recognized for bringing technological innovation to Albion, Burnham, Dixmont, Knox, Newburgh, Thorndike, Troy, Unity, and surrounding areas. UniTel joins a group of providers that have built communications networks capable of delivering Internet speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second, which is 100 times faster than those currently available in many U.S. households.

“I applaud UniTel for its commitment to delivering the Internet’s fastest speeds—an accomplishment worthy of much praise considering the unique and challenging circumstances small, community-based telecommunications providers operate under every day in serving some of our country’s most rural and remote communities,” said NTCA Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield. “By building a gigabit-certified network, UniTel has not only overcome these challenges, but also shattered conventional benchmarks for broadband speed to enable cutting-edge technologies that drive innovation and promote economic development in their communities, region and nationwide.”

UniTel currently offers new fiber customers its fast fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network gigabit internet, plus unlimited nationwide calling, for just $100/month. Additionally, existing UniTel fiber customers had their internet speed doubled for free in November, and as of February 1, now receive unlimited calling and call features as part of their bundles at no extra charge.

“Our fiber-based gigabit internet – that is, 1,000 Mbps – provides some of the fastest and most reliable internet available in the country, which Maine residents deserve,” said Laurie Osgood, CEO of UniTel. “We are so pleased that NTCA has recognized UniTel’s ongoing work to connect our communities.”
